Bus Crash Near Gaspé, Quebec, Sends 23 People to Hospital With No Serious Injuries Reported

A bus travelling on Route 198 between Murdochville and Gaspé was involved in a crash early Friday morning, resulting in 23 passengers and the driver being taken to hospital. Authorities confirmed that none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

The collision occurred near Baillargeon Lake in the Rivière-Saint-Jean area at approximately 1 a.m., according to Sgt. Frédéric Deshaies, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Police Investigating Cause of the Crash

Officials have not yet determined what caused the crash, and it remains unclear whether any other vehicles were involved.

Deshaies said road safety officers were deployed to assist with the investigation. A police officer specially trained in collision investigations examined the scene to collect evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Traffic Restored After Emergency Response

Route 198 was temporarily closed while emergency crews responded to the crash and investigators examined the area.

Authorities have since reopened the roadway, and traffic is once again moving normally along the route.

The overnight bus crash on Route 198 near Gaspé left 24 people hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators continue to examine the scene to determine what led to the incident, while traffic has now returned to normal.
