A man has died after a daylight shooting in Brampton on Sunday afternoon. Peel Regional Police said officers were called to the area of Earlsbridge Boulevard and Edenbrook Hill Drive at around 3:40 p.m. after reports of gunfire.
The fatal shooting was one of several serious incidents reported across Ontario on Sunday, including crashes in Etobicoke, near Barrie, and in Burlington.
Man Dies After Brampton Shooting
According to Peel Regional Police, officers arrived at the Brampton scene and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
Inspector Andrew Harris told CP24 that paramedics rushed the victim to a trauma centre in critical condition. The man was later pronounced dead.
Police have not released the victim’s identity.
The case is now being investigated by the homicide unit.
Police Say No Ongoing Public Threat
Harris said there was no further threat to the public, but investigators were still trying to determine whether the victim and suspects knew each other.
He said there appeared to have been some kind of altercation before shots were fired.
Police are appealing to the public for information, noting that the shooting happened in a busy Brampton subdivision on a side street where people were likely outside at the time.
Suspects Fled on Foot
Police said two male suspects fled the scene on foot.
Both were reportedly wearing dark hooded clothing.
No additional suspect descriptions were immediately released.
Boy Injured While Riding Bike in Etobicoke
In a separate incident, a boy was taken to hospital after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bike in Etobicoke on Sunday afternoon.
Toronto police said the collision happened at around 3 p.m. in the area of Islington Avenue and Bloor Street West.
The young cyclist suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the driver remained at the scene.
School Bus Carrying Children Involved in Barrie-Area Crash
A crash involving a school bus carrying children to summer camp shut down part of Highway 11 north of Barrie for several hours Sunday afternoon.
Ontario Provincial Police said the collision happened at around 1:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 11 near Line 3 South in Oro-Medonte.
The bus, which had children and adult passengers on board, collided with an SUV.
Police said a few people suffered minor injuries, but no one was taken to hospital.
OPP added that drivers were charged accordingly.
One Seriously Injured in Burlington Minivan Crash
Another serious crash happened in Burlington on Sunday afternoon.
Halton Regional Police said officers responded at about 12:40 p.m. to a single-vehicle collision on North Service Road, east of Brant Street.
Police said a white minivan was involved.
One occupant was taken to an out-of-region trauma centre with serious injuries.
