B.C. Man Charged After Allegedly Driving Motorhome Onto Abbotsford Airport Runway

A 53-year-old man was arrested after a motorhome allegedly crashed through a perimeter fence and entered an active runway at Abbotsford International Airport in British Columbia.

The Abbotsford Police Department said officers were called to the airport at approximately 4:36 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Airport employees responded immediately, while air traffic controllers introduced emergency measures to safely redirect aircraft operating near the runway.

Air Traffic Controllers Warn Aircraft

Recordings from the incident reportedly captured air traffic controllers urgently instructing an aircraft to pull up and perform a go-around.

“Pull up and go around immediately,” a controller could be heard telling the aircraft.

At another point in the recording, controllers were heard discussing the motorhome and indicating that they would not communicate directly with the vehicle on the runway.

Driver Arrested by Police

Police officers arrived at the airport at around 4:41 p.m., approximately five minutes after receiving the initial call. The driver was arrested and taken into custody.

Authorities said airport operations were temporarily affected by the incident but later returned to normal. No passengers, airport employees or members of the public were injured.

The man is facing charges related to dangerous operation of a vehicle and mischief.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

The investigation is still in its early stages. Police are working to establish why the man allegedly drove the motorhome through the perimeter fence and onto the active runway.

Abbotsford International Airport is located approximately 70 kilometres inland from Vancouver International Airport.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact Abbotsford police. Drivers with dash camera footage from the area are also encouraged to call 604-859-5225.

The motorhome’s entry onto an active runway caused a brief but potentially serious disruption at Abbotsford International Airport.

Quick action by airport employees, air traffic controllers and police helped redirect aircraft, arrest the driver and restore normal airport operations without any reported injuries.
