Four Men Shot While Attempting to Break Up a Fight Between a Man and a Woman
Four men were injured in a shooting after attempting to break up an argument between a man and a woman in downtown San Francisco early Saturday morning.
Shooting Reported in Tenderloin District
The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. near the intersection of Mason and Market streets in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District.
Police said the four victims noticed a man and woman involved in an altercation and stepped in to prevent the disagreement from escalating. Neither person involved in the original dispute was known to the men who intervened.
Suspect Opened Fire on Good Samaritans
As the group attempted to separate or calm the arguing pair, the male suspect reportedly pulled out a firearm and shot all four men.
Emergency responders transported the victims to hospital for treatment. Although authorities did not disclose the nature or severity of their injuries, all four men are expected to survive.
Police have not released additional identifying information about the victims.
Gunman Fled Before Police Arrived
The suspected shooter escaped from the area following the attack. As of Sunday, authorities had not announced his arrest or confirmed that he had been located.
Investigators also did not reveal what caused the initial disagreement between the man and woman.
Suspects Reportedly Identified
Bilal Mahmood, supervisor of San Francisco’s District 5, said he visited the crime scene and spoke with responding officers.
Mahmood stated that the work of the San Francisco Police Department and the city’s Real-Time Investigation Center had helped authorities identify suspects connected to the incident. However, no arrests had been announced at that time.
He also thanked first responders for acting quickly and said officials would continue following developments in the investigation.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
Police are continuing their search for the suspected gunman and working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities have not provided a detailed description of the suspect or explained whether the woman involved in the original altercation is being sought.
