The City of Kimberley in British Columbia’s East Kootenay region remains under an evacuation alert as crews battle the out-of-control Matthew Creek wildfire.
The wildfire, which was sparked by lightning on Saturday, has expanded to an estimated 567 hectares, prompting officials to advise residents to prepare for a possible evacuation.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire is burning on a steep mountainside and is being driven by strong winds, making firefighting operations more difficult.
Due to the dangerous terrain and active fire behaviour, crews are unable to conduct a direct ground attack on the blaze.
