Driver Caught Speeding 112 km/h Over the Limit on Ottawa Road

A joint road safety operation conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Ottawa Police Service resulted in 11 stunt driving charges after officers targeted speeding and other dangerous driving behaviours over the weekend.

The two-day enforcement campaign took place on Friday and Saturday night, with support from OPP Aviation Services.

Driver Clocked 112 km/h Over the Speed Limit

Among the most serious violations, police recorded one driver travelling at 172 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, exceeding the speed limit by 112 km/h.

Officers also caught:

  • Two drivers travelling at 186 km/h on a local highway.
  • One additional driver travelling at 172 km/h on the highway.

Additional Traffic Offences Reported

During the enforcement initiative, officers issued several other penalties, including:

  • 35 speeding tickets
  • 11 stunt driving charges
  • 2 charges for driving without valid insurance
  • 5 charges for driving while under suspension

Police Warn Against Risky Driving

The OPP said it will continue working alongside the Ottawa Police Service to improve road safety and reduce dangerous driving across the region.

Police warned that motorists caught engaging in reckless driving can face serious consequences, including vehicle impoundment, driver’s licence suspensions, hefty fines, and other enforcement measures.

The weekend enforcement campaign highlights Ottawa police’s continued focus on reducing dangerous driving. Authorities say drivers who ignore speed limits or engage in reckless behaviour should expect strict penalties aimed at improving road safety for everyone.
