Man Dies After Being Struck by School Bus in St. John’s
A 77-year-old man has died after being struck by a school bus at a busy intersection in St. John’s on Friday morning.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said officers responded at approximately 10:30 a.m. NT to the intersection of Allandale Road and Prince Philip Drive.
No Passengers on the School Bus
According to Const. Stephanie Myers, the school bus driver was not injured in the collision. The driver remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators and was the only person inside the bus at the time.
Police have not released further information about the victim or the circumstances that led to the collision.
Police Investigation Remains Ongoing
Members of the RNC’s accident investigation unit and operational patrol services attended the scene to examine the incident.
Police said the investigation is continuing, although the collision is not currently believed to have involved criminal activity.
Witnesses and Video Footage Requested
Collision reconstruction specialists are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact police.
Investigators are also looking for surveillance, dashcam or other video footage recorded in the area shortly before, during or immediately after the collision. Such evidence may help officers establish how the fatal incident occurred.
The death of the 77-year-old man remains under investigation as police work to reconstruct the events surrounding the school bus collision. Anyone with relevant information or footage from the Allandale Road and Prince Philip Drive area is encouraged to assist investigators.
