B.C. Man Still Awaiting Compensation for COVID-19 Vaccine Injury
A British Columbia man who was officially recognized as having suffered a severe reaction following a COVID-19 vaccination says he remains trapped in a lengthy compensation process.
Jan Przeranski is living with a chronic and progressive medical condition that has caused repeated swelling and infections in his arm. The condition has left the affected arm largely unusable and has created an ongoing need for treatment and personal assistance.
Compensation Approved but Payment Still Pending
Przeranski was approved to receive financial compensation through the federal government’s vaccine injury support program. However, he says he has not received any of the approved funds.
The delay reportedly followed the federal government’s decision to take direct control of the program from the private company that had previously administered it.
Despite being accepted for compensation, Przeranski remains thousands of dollars out of pocket after paying for medical care, treatment and support services himself.
He said he was informed that a payment would be issued on Thursday, but the money had still not appeared.
Loss of Home-Care Assistance
The payment delay has also affected Przeranski’s ability to maintain essential home-care support.
According to Przeranski, his home-care worker stopped providing assistance because he could no longer afford to pay her. Without regular home care, he has been forced to ask other people for occasional help and compensate them using his own limited funds.
He described the loss of home care as his most urgent concern because his medical condition makes everyday tasks increasingly difficult.
Treatment Costs Creating Rent Problems
The continued need to pay for care from his own pocket has also placed Przeranski under growing financial pressure.
He said the expenses have left him short of money for rent. Although he managed to deal with the previous month’s payment, he is once again experiencing difficulties with his landlord.
His case highlights the financial hardship that can occur when approved compensation is delayed, particularly when an individual requires ongoing medical treatment and personal support.
Public Health Agency Responds
The Public Health Agency of Canada said privacy restrictions prevent it from discussing the details of individual applications.
However, the agency confirmed that officials are continuing to work on Przeranski’s compensation claim.
Although Jan Przeranski has already been approved under the federal vaccine injury support program, he says the delayed payment has left him without regular home care and struggling to cover treatment and rent.
The Public Health Agency of Canada maintains that his case is being processed, but no confirmed payment has yet been received.
