RCMP Recover Body of Second Brother Who Drowned in Nutimik Lake

Manitoba RCMP have confirmed that the body of 13-year-old Aaron Au Ramirez was recovered from Nutimik Lake following several days of searching.

Aaron entered the water near Sturgeon Falls on Saturday after his 10-year-old brother, Maximo, slipped on rocks and fell into the lake. Aaron reportedly jumped into the water in an attempt to help him.

Lac du Bonnet RCMP announced Thursday evening that Aaron’s body was located in the water at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Maximo’s body had been recovered from the lake the previous evening.

Family Notified After Tragic Discovery

Police confirmed that the boys’ family had been informed. The RCMP also expressed appreciation to the volunteers, emergency crews and supporting organizations that participated in the extensive search operation.

Allison Baker-Thiessen, owner of Nutimik Lodge, where the family had been staying, described the search as a determined community effort.

According to Baker-Thiessen, a local community member discovered Aaron’s body at roughly the same time and in the same area where Maximo had been found one day earlier.

Community and Emergency Teams Worked Together

Baker-Thiessen said community members, emergency response teams and volunteers spent countless hours assisting with the search, conducting wellness checks and providing support in several ways.

She emphasized that the operation would not have been possible without the large number of people who stood beside the family and search teams throughout the difficult situation.

Family Facing an Extremely Difficult Time

Although Aaron’s family is relieved that his body was recovered, Baker-Thiessen said they are experiencing immense grief following the deaths of both children.

She added that the family will face an especially painful and challenging period as they cope with the tragedy.

The recovery of Aaron and Maximo brings the difficult search at Nutimik Lake to an end. The tragedy has deeply affected the family and surrounding community, while highlighting the significant efforts of volunteers, emergency personnel and local residents who helped locate the two brothers.
