Toronto police are investigating another shooting after a violent stretch in the city that left multiple people injured and three people dead in separate incidents.
The latest case involves a man who walked into a local hospital early Tuesday morning with gunshot wounds believed to be non-life-threatening.
Man Walks Into Hospital With Gunshot Wound
Police said the injured man arrived at a Toronto hospital just before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Investigators believe the shooting happened in the Tapscott Road and Blackwell Avenue area of Scarborough, near Neilson Road and Sheppard Avenue East. Officers who responded to reports of gunshots found evidence of a firearm discharge in the area.
Injuries Not Believed to Be Life-Threatening
Toronto police said the man’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
No suspect information has been released, and the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information has been asked to contact Toronto police at 416-808-2222.
Weekend Violence Left 12 Gunshot Victims
The Scarborough shooting followed a violent weekend in Toronto, where police confirmed several shootings between July 10 and July 12.
Across three major incidents, a total of 12 people were shot, including three people who died.
Fatal North York Shooting Started the Weekend Violence
The violence began late Friday night near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West in North York.
Police said three men in their 20s were shot in what investigators believe was a targeted attack. Abdihamiim Aden, 22, of Toronto, was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Three Suspects Sought in North York Case
Toronto police said three suspects fled the North York shooting scene in a stolen black Honda Civic.
The vehicle was later found burned in Brampton. Investigators have appealed for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage from either the shooting scene or the area where the vehicle was discovered.
Salsa on St. Clair Shooting Kills Two
The second major shooting happened Saturday evening during the Salsa on St. Clair festival near St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue.
Police said gunfire at the crowded street festival killed two men and sent four others to hospital. The second day of the festival was later cancelled as investigators continued their work.
Victims Identified as Shaquan Quashie and Cesar Vernaza
Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw said the Salsa on St. Clair shooting was a targeted incident.
Police identified the two men killed as Shaquan Quashie, 25, and Cesar Vernaza, 20. Investigators said both victims were known to each other.
Innocent Bystanders Hit by Gunfire
Police said thousands of people were attending the festival when gunfire erupted.
Chief Demkiw said bystanders were struck by stray bullets and called for tougher penalties for public shootings that put large crowds at risk. Police recovered two firearms from the scene.
Polson Street Shooting Leads to Arrest
Hours after the festival shooting, police responded to another shooting near Polson Street and Cherry Street in the Port Lands area.
Toronto police said there was an exchange of gunfire between an accused person and an unknown suspect. Two people were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds, and another person was injured after being struck by a vehicle. All injuries were considered non-life-threatening.
Brampton Man Charged in Port Lands Incident
Police charged Omar Abdul Singateh, 25, of Brampton, in connection with the Polson Street shooting.
He faces multiple charges, including reckless discharge of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, robbery, four counts of forcible confinement, dangerous operation causing bodily harm and dangerous operation.
Chief Says Police Are Checking for Links
Chief Demkiw said investigators are examining the three weekend shooting incidents to determine whether any of them are connected.
He said detectives are continuing to pursue all possible leads as they work to identify those responsible and bring them before the courts.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Video
Police are asking anyone who saw the Salsa on St. Clair shooting or captured photos or videos to contact investigators at 13 Division.
Information from the public could help investigators piece together what happened in the moments before and after the gunfire.
Toronto police are now investigating another shooting after a violent weekend that left 12 people shot and three dead across the city. The latest victim walked into hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting believed to have happened in Scarborough.
Meanwhile, investigators continue to examine the fatal North York shooting, the deadly Salsa on St. Clair attack and the Polson Street incident, while also looking into whether any of the cases are connected.
