RNC Connects Suspect to 11 Suspicious Fires Across the Metro Region
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has confirmed that a man already charged in connection with two fires involving communications infrastructure is now being investigated as a suspect in nine additional incidents across the metro region.
Patrick Donald Greer, 30, appeared in a St. John’s courtroom for the first time to face two arson charges and two counts of mischief involving property damage.
Charges Connected to Communication Tower Fires
The current charges relate to two fires reported on Monday. One occurred at a communications tower in Pippy Park, while the other involved a radio tower located on Densmore’s Lane.
Police have since identified Greer as a suspect in nine other fires reported throughout the metro area.
One of those incidents occurred last week and damaged three cell towers positioned on top of the Bell Aliant building on Duckworth Street.
Upcoming Court Appearances
Greer is scheduled to return to court next Wednesday at 3 p.m. for a status update regarding the St. John’s charges.
He is also involved in a separate court case in Stephenville, where he faces a charge of possessing property obtained through crime. His next appearance in that matter is scheduled for September 3.
The investigation has expanded significantly, with Greer now suspected in nine additional fires involving communications equipment. The allegations remain before the courts, and further information may emerge as the cases proceed.
